Diabetes is a global problem. More than 230 million people live with diabetes.
If nothing is done, this figure will exceed 350 million within a generation and undermine the benefits of improved standards of living worldwide.

Many remain ignorant. Many are undiagnosed. Many have limited access to
care.

The world needs a UN Resolution on diabetes to bring this silent killer
out of the shadows.

I am asking the member states of the United Nations to vote in support of a UN Resolution on diabetes and acknowledge the seriousness of the global epidemic by:

  • Recognizing the urgent need for multilateral efforts to promote and improve human health
  • Developing national policies for the prevention, treatment and care of diabetes
  • Designating 14 November as World Diabetes Day to be observed officially by the United Nations beginning 2007
